The City of Lawrence will host an electronic recycling event on Saturday, October 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Free State High School NE parking lot, 4700 Overland Drive. This is a rain or shine event.
The city invites residents and small businesses to recycle unused or obsolete electronic equipment. Electronic equipment may contain hazardous components such as lead, mercury and cadmium. Recycling your unused or obsolete electronic equipment keeps these hazardous components out of the landfill.
Items accepted for recycling are computers, monitors, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, televisions, video and audio equipment, microwaves and other small appliances, cell phones and other hand held devices. There is a recycling fee for computer monitors, $10 per monitor, and televisions, $15 per television. There are no charges for other electronic equipment. Fees may be paid by cash or check.
Electronic recycling will be provided by Extreme Recycling, a permitted e-waste recycling and reclamation facility in the State of Kansas.
Items not accepted include large appliances and household hazardous materials such as paint, used motor oil, pesticides, and fluorescent bulbs. For information on how to dispose of large appliances and household hazardous waste, call the Waste Reduction and Recycling Division at 832-3030.
